How do you feel about hearing a little of our road trip? that was a few weeks ago. You think that it’s too late to mention? Honestly, I had such great bloggy thoughts riding in that car – sure wish I had written them down…..hate that…….but am sure that I can remember a bit of it…….
I had mentioned to you before that as soon as Sara went off to college, I wanted to go visit my grown sons. Adam and Laura live half an hour from college girl, so we get to catch up with them when in that area. But our first two had grown into these wonderfully great men, who followed their dreams out of state. I already told you a little bit of our first “empty nest” trip to Colorado.
A few days after returning home from CO, we begin the Nashville road trip. I had seen Mark’s new condo (it’s so great!), but Mitch hadn’t seen it yet. Plus we had found a big box of his things in one of our closets, and Mitch got this idea to take his things to him. 🙂 Off we went. Because we can. grin.
We also had some stops we wanted to make along the way, which was fun. We spent the first night in Louisiana, so the next day we could lunch with Mitch’s good friend – at his very own CHICK-FIL-A!!! We had a grand tour – through the whole place – even saw his cow costumes! Seriously, had it not been a billion degrees outside, I might have thought about throwing them on! might. We ate, and visited, and ate some more (have you ever had their yogurt parfait thingy? – really good) Such a great visit with Tom. The whole experience was amazing. Then we were off to Mississippi.
We stayed that night in Biloxi, right on the beach, and I could hardly wait to check in and run out to the beach. I just had a little over an hour before the sun would set. I absolutely LOVE to look for shells. I had the best time combing the beach – however, what I found were rocks. really cool rocks. Simple pleasures for a basic scavenger. Just me, my baggie for collecting, and my God. I loved it. Couple that with a very profound sunset. bliss.
More bliss the next day cause we get to stop our driving to lunch with our Emily! She’s so dear to our family, and it was so great to stop off at Samford in Birmingham, see the beautiful campus, have a brief tour of their chapel with another beloved friend(so happy!), and catch up with Emily. Loved it. Then finish the day pulling into Nashville in time for dinner with Mark! We loved spending time with Danielle as well. a new friend. I’m more and more impressed with those who have come into the lives our our children, who love the Lord, and follow hard after Him. I’m so encouraged.
The weekend was totally fun, wonderful and I loved it so much. Great food, perfect weather, college football, those comfy couches, walking around downtown, our shopping trip. But since it had taken us two whole days to get there I was a little overwhelmed with the looming trip home. The one day version. But it was totally great. Seriously, I am delighted to tell you, we had such fun. Just the two of us.
*13 hours. Left at first light. literally.
*Lunch at Cracker Barrel. blueberry pancakes. No, I’m not kidding. They were amazing.
*Home with time to have quick bike ride before dark.
*Still in love with my man. Giving God much praise for it all, and so very grateful for all my people. The ones that grew up under our one roof, and are now scattered across this great land. Doing their thing. We will not ever live under one roof again, but my time with any of them brings me great joy. great great joy.
Mark – your place is amazing, as is your office. Well, your whole life right now, actually. And answer to prayer, isn’t it? I’m so thankful for your call to serve God passionately. Thanks for letting us come and hang with you for a little bit. I love you. mom.
