Almost every Wednesday morning, I go to my friend’s house, and we walk. together. We talk. We take her dog, too, however, these days she can’t make our whole route, so we take her then return her to the home before continuing our walk. We love our time together. I mean, all three of us.
I call Nancy every Wed. just to check and make sure we are going. As the phone rings at her house, her dog, Snickers, begins to bark excitedly. Do you know why? (I promise you – I’m not kidding here) The dog knows it’s me, and she knows soon I will pull up in her driveway, and we will walk. This morning, when I placed that phone call, I realized how much I enjoy being loved by this dog. Nancy assures me of a couple of things – Snickers barks ONLY when I call, and she barks at me when I pull in the driveway. She knows. And she loves me. I revel in that at times. It’s a sure thing for me – going to that place, and knowing I’m eagerly greeted by this precious 4-pawed animal.
How much more am I loved (you too!) by our God! Maybe we don’t hear Him like I hear Snickers. Maybe we forget His love for us. Maybe our feelings are what drives our confidence. But those are not always reliable. The Word is, and it says He loves us. period. Delight in that today – for you are truly, and forever, loved. You are priceless to Him. Live like it.
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
“…and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
1 John 4:10
“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
